About The Whimsical Soul

Diane Pyda

Just your average artist, teacher, and student of the world.  I love to learn. I love to create. And I love to see the whimsical happiness of everyone I meet.

I’ve been an artist and a teacher since 1993, but I have been creating and enjoying the fun of the world since I was born.  I first got my hands in clay when I was in the ninth grade, and I fell in love with it!  Its versatile and forgiving nature helped me to channel my focus and bring my thoughts to life. Who knew creating something I could actually use could be so fun!

Once I created the useful things, I discovered sculpture and the joys of creating for aesthetic pleasure.  In my opinion, clay has it all – with the ability to create from functional, to sculptural, and all combinations in between.

Through workshops and classes my interests grew, and I now try to incorporate other materials into my work; these include, semi-precious stone, glass, and other natural materials.  The clay helps me to harness the fun while maintaining a sense of purpose – I think it may be my spirit animal…Just kidding, we all know that’s a cat!
